Product Description

Once again, Sharp®, the leader in LCD technology, has established a new design standard for LCD TVs. The new LC65D64U AQUOS® raises the bar by fitting a large screen size into a incredibly small footprint. By changing the layout of circuits inside the LCD panel and by cutting the number of parts, Sharp's engineers were able to reduce the depth by 30%, allowing placement of the LC65D64U model in virtually any type setting. The LC65D64U utilizes Sharp’s proprietary Advanced Super View/Black TFT Panel with multi-pixel technology, providing 10,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio with Enhanced Picture Contrast Technology and 4ms response time. The LC65D64U is a HDTV with built-in ATSC / QAM / NTSC tuners and include 3 HDMI™ inputs, compatible with 1080p signals, a PC input and 2 HD component video inputs. Side terminals are included for convenience as well as RS-232C input for control. The LC65D64U features a sleek piano black cabinet with subtle, recessed bottom-mounted speakers.

user_comment Sharp Aquos LC65D64U 65-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Review of purchase of Sharp TV from CSBUS via Amazon.com

Review Date: February 8, 2010
Reviewer: Barry M. Yaffe,
I purchased a Sharp 65" LCD TV via Amazon.com from the seller CSBUS in December 2009. The TV performs well and I would recommend it to others who want a TV this size and price. However I have problems with the seller. When the TV was delivered, I realized that it was not new as promised and that it had a couple of cosmetic defects. I called the seller CSBUS and they told me that the TV was purchased as part of a bulk buy by a large organization, but it was never actually used. However, in the process, the base was damaged. They offered to find a replacement base and send it to me, but they never did. When I asked why the warranty page in the manual had a stamp on it that said the warranty wasn't valid, they told me not to worry about it, that the warranty was valid. I admit that I got very busy during the holidays and didn't follow up to get the warranty issue resolved. Now I am asking Amazon.com to discuss this on my behalf with the seller CSBUS and make good on the warranty that comes with new Sharp TVs, which I thought I was buying.

Thank You,

purchased 4 of these monitors for work. The set up menus are a little funky but are the same as all of the other sharp LCD's in the same class of monitor. Very good picture quality for the money.

I recently purchased this television for my restaurant and have recieved rave reviews from all of our patrons. The picture quality is the very best for a 65 inch LCD. This Sharp Aquos television deserves a solid 5 star rating. Great for watching sports!

I bought this unit because I wanted a television that would give me a home theater experience without converting my basement family room into a media room. It's the perfect size for that...large enough to view movies and play video games with astonishing definition and theater presence without overwhelming the room. I'm amazed myself I'm saying a 65 inch television doesn't dominate the room but that's how far we've come in the last 10 years regarding what we expect from a television experience. I don't know anything about refresh rates or response times...I have a plasma..a 47 inch in our bedroom and the picture quality is no different. The only complaint I have regarding the change from a plasma to an LCD is that at angles to the viewing screen, some definition is lost with the LCD. Other than that, I am completely satisfied.

I got a great deal on this TV! I was hoping it would go on sale again here on Amazon but it has been unavailable for awhile now, but I happened to be shopping over the weekend, and saw this TV as a "Open Box Deal" that had been a floor model.
I paid $1,599 for it, and bought a extra 3 year warranty for $400.
I would be currious if anyone else got it any cheaper that that! thats about the same price I bought my 46" LCD in my bedroom awhile back.

I have not seen any banding issues or dead pixels, and I am using settings that someone posted on AVS forum, and it looks allot better than I was able to get it.
If anyone is interested I can post those settings here.

Bought the LC 65D64U to accommodate a large great room. I have another 45" AQUOS so my expectations from Sharp were fairly high. Although I was probably more impressed with the 45" picture quality (first flat LCD), the 65" has solid picture quality, easy to navigate on-screen set up and Sharp support.

One note..as you'd expect, this thing really enlarges the picture, so if you have poor signal input (i.e. not HiDef or HDMI) the poorer picture quality is magnified to 65" and seems more noticeable than the 45" or smaller sets.... I guess size does matter. When running Blu-Ray input and connected to home theatre it is a treat. You might as well save the $10, wait for the Blu-Ray and enjoy the movie at home! i have only noticed limited banding, but that seemed to be resolved with a quick visit from cable provider who tightened the connection.

We got very quick delivery via Amazon preferred partner, quick shipping and help with setting the beast up on the stand. Only negative was that the shippers didn't notice they took the remote control with them (was taped to the inside of the box) so i was unable to set up the set for ~1.5 weeks until we could get another via vendor (they had to order from Sharp).

all in all, good LCD and will likely be in use for years to come

I was able to order this 65" SE94U model from Sharp from the Magnolia store at Best Buy... floor model, but with extended warranty from dtvexpress.com, I should be fine. After finally configuring the settings (see below), I was absolutely floored by the view. Because this is a larger tv, SD broadcasts do not look as good as on smaller TVs. That's common sense since defects on larger TVs will show more (kind of like magnifying a mediocre image rather than looking at a high resolution version of that same image). If you're buying a TV and do not watch HD content as much, then don't waste your money unless you'll be watching blu-ray. Also, distance from the TV to your seat needs to be about 15' for full appreciation. The 120hz does not make much difference on this TV since it does not have anti-judder technology... in other words, it helps the image by about 15% or so... you can see that at work in the TV's demo mode. I was expecting almost no blurring unlike what was present in the older 60hz TVs, but that's not the case... at first I was disappointed, but after calibrating it and such, the image is JUST RIDICULOUS!!! I was able to look past the fact that I didn't get 100% no blurring. If you're looking for no blurring in a TV, look for some type of anti-judder technology along with 120hz+ refresh rate.

I had to get an LCD due to having a VERY bright room... plasmas and all the newer LCDs have a high gloss screen that reflects light... this one does not have that. The new LG LED LCDs dont have the glossy screen either, but they're not out yet... and the largest size is 55".

Below are my settings for this TV:

I bought this TV after several weeks of research in the middle of February. I received it in about a week. The delivery men brought the tv in the house and unboxed it and plugged it in. I had my installer there to hang the TV and put the entire surround sound system together. Although I had seen this tv at BJ's Wholesale, it looked a lot bigger in my living room. It was amazing. There wasn't any smell at all from the tv and it worked perfectly. I ordered the whole package from Amazon, including TV, Bluray player, Onyko surround sound system, HDMI's, Optical cables, banana plugs, speaker wire and tons more. I spent a lot but it was worth every penny. If you buy the TV, the sound with the tv is pretty good, although if you are spending this much on the tv you should buy a surround sound system to go with it. It is amazing. I used someone's settings for the tv that had posted a few months earlier and those settings worked out great. We have a high def DVR/Cable box and the picture on this TV is the best I've found. If I had the money I would buy one for all the rooms in the house LOL. In my opinion, you cant go wrong with this TV, esp for the price (less then $3000.00) This TV replaced another high def set we had (a 61")not LCD, but it doesn't come close to this Sharp Aquos set. Splurge-go for it-you wont be disapointed. This tv with the surround sound and all the bells and whistles is the best!!!
