Review Date: November 20, 2009
Reviewer: Brian Allman, Sugar Land, Texas United States
If you like TV's in which the internal screen cracks when nobody's in the room and if you like to buy a tv where the warranty is meaningless, this is your tv. After 10 months of hanging on our wall with no problems, the tv screen cracked while I was out of the room. Hitachi sent a service technician over who without lifting a finger claimed that external trauma caused the issue and the warranty would not cover it. Hitachi sold me a defective product, their service tech called me a liar and I'm out the money spent on this tv.

Be careful with this product - this can happen to you.

This plasma is everything you want in a TV. Great, natural color, deep blacks, 24p movie mode and much more. Watch the Blu-ray movie "Cars" on this TV & you'll wonder how anything could ever look better at any price. Buy this TV. You won't be sorry.
user_comment Hitachi P50S602 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV with Swivel Stand Nice Plasma TV compared to the others.

Reviewer: S. A. ROBBINS, USA
Overall I would highly recommend this TV. I did a lot of comparison shopping (actually bought it at a local store) for both price and features and this Hitachi won. I actually bought a Panasonic Plasma and returned it because the picture was so poor, it appeared to be designed solely for HD while this Hitachi does well with any signal.
One of the primary reasons I bought another Hitachi is that it has built-in Up-Conversion. What this means is that it can take a conventional signal (non-HD) and will convert it to a higher resolution. We have a 65" Hitachi projection TV and the picture is outstanding. This one is even better.
Another advantage to this model is that it has the QAM Tuner which allows you to receive Cable HD channels that are not encrypted. Our Cable company broadcasts both the regular local channels and the HD version of those channels but it requires a QAM tuner. On this tv the HD pictures are absolutely outstanding. They are so good, I almost think it is a painting or hard picture.
The only thing I wish it had was an easily programmable Favorites function. But then nobody else does either. Some time ago, I had a cable box that had a Favorites function that worked simply buy hitting two buttons and you delete by hitting two buttons. No menus, just quick setting. I occasionally like to watch 2-4 programs simultaneously but with just the Last function that makes it difficult.
user_comment Hitachi P50S602 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV with Swivel Stand Would recommend this tv to others.

This is my second hdtv that have purchased and I have been very satisfied with it. I originally was thinking of getting an LCD HDTV but then after talking to a salesperson was convinced to look into getting a plasma. I have found this TV to be great for sports and movies. The blacks are really black and fast moving events are clear. I also like that this TV comes with a swivel stand so that I can tilt the TV to the part of the room that I am sitting in.

Getting A Good Hdtv Antenna

High definition TVs are at the forefront of the TV technologies. From analog to digital, digital to standard definition TV, and now standard definition TV to high definition TV, it has surpassed even the quality of the DVD movie. If not for the difference in size, high definition TVs have brought the movie theaters inside the homes of consumers.

High definition TVs will receive the actual digital signal from a cable service, either from Dish network or DirecTV. These cable services offer HDTV shows that includes but are not limited to NBA TV, Showtime, CBS, HBO TV, Pay Per View, etc. Some of these HDTv shows are free upon subscription and others have a separate subscription like HBO.

The Best HDTV Antenna For HDTV

The signal from these cable services will be transmitted to the high definition TVs via the best HDTV antenna the money can buy. This is important since the best HDTV antenna available will be the one to receive the sensitive digital signals from the cabel services.

The best HDTV antenna is an off air antenna that is able to receive off air broadcasts of high definition TV shows. The best HDTv antenna will then be connected to the high definition tuner card for proper viewing in a high definition TV.

The best HDTV antenna to be very effective must be within an area where off air broadcasts of high definition TV shows are available. A high definition tuner card is sometimes capable to receive high definition TV show signals.

This is why the consumer must be able to comprehend if his high definition tuner card is able to receive off air broadcasts of high definition TV shows. If a high definition tuner card is already capable of receiving high definition TV show signals then teh consumer no longer needs the best HDTV antenna available.

Though some consumers say that the high definition tuner card is sufficient enough against the use of the best HDTV antenna. Other consumers still say that the best HDTv antenna is needed to be able to come up with the superior picture and sound.

EIther the best HDTV antenna or the high definition tuner card, that is for the consumer to try out for themselves, sometimes the high definition TV show signal in an area is very weak that they really need the best HDTV antenna to be able to view effectively the high definition TV shows.

High Definition Tuner For HDTV

Next, the consumer will have to consider the high definition tuner that he will use for his high definition TV sets. Most high definition tuners have an advanced program guide that integrates all the off air broadcasts of high definition TV shows into one seamless program for convenience to the user.

Using the advanced program guide of high definition tuner cards, consumers can view programming schedules at least about three days in advance.

The high definition tuner for the high definition TV sets must also be highly effective to be able to provide superior quality of standard and high definition programming.

Some Considerations In Set-Up Of High Definition TV Sets

There are a few other considerations a consumer must take aside from looking for the best HDTV antenna and high definition tuner cards available in the market:

The consumer must be aware of the input or output jacks needed to complete all high definition TV connections. The consumer might decide to connect a few other equipment or accessories to his high definition TV set and therefore must be able to check what input or output jacks does he need even before buying a high definition TV set.

A consumer can connect a DVD, VHS, cabale box and even video game consoles to his high definition TV set and will entail careful planning for the connection.

Usually, consumers are required to have S-video connection jacks aside from the composite or even component video analog jacks. Using these connection jacks, the consumer can readily buy a high definition Tv set without fear of problems in connections. The simpler the high definition TV connections are, the better and more convenient it is for the consumer.

Review Date: February 28, 2010
Reviewer: Jason Y, NY
I recently made a cross country move from Ca to NY and didn't want to pack and ship my 2 Pioneer Kuros so i decided to just buy new TV when I got into town. I was about to spend another 4-6000 but after seeing this TV at a friends house I just couldn't do it anymore. I will admit there is a picture quality difference between my top of the line Pioneers and this entry level LG but for 80% of the consumers I doubt that they will notice a difference. The difference isn't in clarity its more in regards to color tone, and adjustability. One quick note I don't have this TV hooked up to a sat or cable signal so I'm reviewing it based solely on my experience with the TV with a Sony Blu Ray player and PS3 connected by HDMI. If you have a PS3 with a netflix account I would forgo the upgrade to the PS80 because its the same TV and all the functions that you would gain from that are available through the PS3. Also the fear of burn in is almost irrelevant anymore, my 9 yr old nephew was staying over for a few days and I asked him to turn the TV off as we were on the way out. He thought he was going to lose his place in the game so he paused it with the screen on. We got back 2 hours later and when I turned everything off (after showing him the save function) and on again there were noticeable signs of burn in but went away after he watched a ratatouille later.

Pro's;
-Great picture quality, no muddled picture here
-Easy menu navigation
-Great sound for what it is
-4 x HDMI connections
-Legacy connections if you have any older components you want to keep for some reason
-Easy to set up, it took me 10 min
-Pre set color modes
-Flat front glass, no step down from the bezel to the screen it cleans up the aesthetics

Con's;
-My number one gripe is that the blacks aren't as black as for example the Samsung 550. Its more like a dark dark dark gray and is kind of annoying to look at when you watching blu rays.
-Speakers, their good but go spend $300-500 for a simple 7.1 system
-Menu might be too simple for users that want more adjustments
-Remote, I bought a Logitech Universal remote after I dropped my remote the first day I got the tv and it stopped working.
-Preset color modes, I put them under pro's too but I wasn't a big fan of them use the adjustment program and tweak the colors yourself to get the best picture it takes 5 min and makes a huge difference.

Summary;

Great Plasma looking for the sub $1000 category if your looking for a 1080P plasma with great connection options and picture quality you can't go wrong with this unit. Find it online for $950-1200, many retailers were also offering free shipping so just do a little research for the best deal.

Good television when it worked. Second day after setup, the set kept turning itself off after two to five minutes. I returned to HHGregg. They didn't belive me, so they set it up and tried it in the store. I had videoed the defect on my cancorder. As I went to get my video from the car, the set cut off. They expected me to accept a replacement. I don't think so. I'll look elsewhere.

I bought this TV from sears a month back, and have no issues with it till date. picture quality is nice and so is the visual appearance. Didn't have glossy screen problems or burn in issues till now. But most importantly for me it was a great deal as I was able to buy this for ~$650.
BUT, certainly check the product before you pick up your package. The first one I ordered had a big crack on the screen, but ofcourse they took it back without any issues. Second one does not have any issues till now.
user_comment LG 50PS60 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV with THX Display Certification Smashed screen - check before accepting

Review Date: September 21, 2009
Reviewer: L. Cummings,
I did a LOT of research and I firmly believe this is the best screen for the price point at this time, however when it arrived (after 7 days) the screen was smashed to pieces. The delivery guys tried to get me to sign as soon as they carried it into the apartment and seemed very shocked (and annoyed) that I wanted to open to check the screen, and it's very lucky that I did.

Amazon couldn't deliver another for 7 days, so I went to a local store and picked up a different model with same day delivery (47 inch LG LCD which I am more than happy with).

How Choose Your Best Buy Hdtv

If you’re set on getting HDTV, then choose the best buy HDTV. It is a fact though that picking a unit that trumps the rest is never easy. The HDTV you just saw on an ad may not be the best one for you. Here are some things to consider before buying your HDTV:

Basic Information

You can’t buy the best HDTV if you don’t even know what HDTV is. The surest way to find the best of anything is to learn as much as you can about them before paying. HDTV is the product of new technology that allows you to view television shows and DVD in high and clear resolution. It would seem much like seeing the real thing on TV except that images are still two dimensional.

Some areas however are not good places to own an HDTV set. You only get to enjoy great resolution if the shows that you watch are also high definition. Many shows are still in the arena of standard definition. If this is the case, you’ll simply end up having a useless and expensive box with bad pictures. You can determine the best HDTV to buy only if you first determine the appropriateness of an HD unit in your situation.

HDTV or HD-Ready

If an HDTV is not the best choice for you, don’t despair. You still have another alternative. You may instead choose to get an HD-ready set. HDTV typically functions with a tuner that is already built-in and an antenna. An HD-ready set on the other hand would need a separate tuner or box so it can convert digital signals to images. The good thing about having an HD-ready set is that standard definition shows still look great in them.

LCD or Plasma

You would have to choose between a plasma or LCD screen. There is a lot of disagreement over the best buy HDTV when it comes to this consideration. In general, plasma may be a better choice if the room is dimly lit, the TV room is spacious and the TV itself is big. An LCD screen on the other hand would be great if the TV room has clear lighting, the room is cramped and the TV set is not too big. If you want durability, LCD beats plasma.

Aspect Ratio

The aspect ratio of a screen should also be part of your considerations. A lot of new HDTVs come in the 16:9 ratio. Old TVs have a 4:3 ratio. The screen proportion of your choice can affect the way you view a show or movie. Shows set for 4:3 will result in black sides appearing in a 16:9 HDTV set. This isn’t a concern though is you prefer to watch DVDs that typically have widescreen selections.

Rear Projection or Direct View

Old TVs still have rear projection. This means images come out through the process of reflection. TV sets that do not function under the principle of mirror reflection simply show images directly on the screen. HDTV with direct view normally has clearer shows.

Picking your best buy HDTV can be a bit tricky. All you really have to do though is to determine your preferences and whether or not an HDTV is appropriate for you. If you are still at a loss, consider reading HDTV consumer reviews.

Discover why high definition tv is the best in the industry. Read the latest best buy hdtv review online.

Outstanding Video Performance
With a screen as large as this, high resolution becomes more important because it is more possible to view each pixel from a distance. The PDP-5010FD is a native 1080p display, meaning it has a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, the highest standard available. The black levels on plasma screens are generally superb and this unit is no exception, with blacks that are an intense, deep black and a picture that has very high contrast as a result.

The display features Pioneer's new ASIC video processing and scaling, which upconverts standard definition and other video resolutions for viewing at 1080p. A variety of noise reduction circuitry ensures a distortion-free picture at all times. Users can manually adjust the color temperature, gamma, and the levels of noise reduction circuitry and filters to fine tune the picture to their exact specifications.

An optical light sensor automatically adjusts the picture for optimal viewing depending on the ambient light in the room, compensating for night and day and for the content of the video, such as sports, movies, or news. The PDP-5010FD also has a film mode that eliminates motion judder and provides smoother playback of film content.

The PDP-5010FD is capable of remembering six picture settings for various A/V selections, with Movie, Game, Standard, Dynamic, and Optimum modes, as well as a user-defined preset. You can also set one of five aspect ratio presets in case you're watching standard-aspect 4:3 television. The television can also be set to auto-size when zooming is necessary.

Connections for all your Components
The PDP-5010FD has a large complement of inputs, including four independent HDMI 1.3 inputs (two with analog audio). Additionally, it has two component inputs, three composite inputs, and one S-Video input. There is a USB connection that can connect a storage drive for viewing of photos. A built-in CableCard slot enables the PDP-5010FD to work with cable services without an extra decoding box. An ATSC and two NTSC tuners are built in and fully integrated for use with picture-in-picture and picture-side-picture modes. The television has outputs for Dolby Digital/PCM, audio, subwoofer, SR+, and headphone. The TV Guide On-Screen programming guide is included as well.

Breathtaking Audio
The PDP-5010FD features a detachable bottom speaker with an integrated digital amplifier that improves the clarity and accuracy of the sound. The amplifier provides 17 watts of power for the two-way speakers and supports SRS WOW/FOCUS/TruBass surround sound.

The PDP-5010FD is backed by a 1-year limited warranty.
